Tom Hanks hired a 'Baywatch' extra to teach him how to swim.

The 'Angels and Demons' star took lessons to improve his stroke after discovering he would have to don a pair of tight swimming trunks for his latest film role.

Tom Hanks will be honoured by The Film Society of Lincoln Center at its 36th Gala Tribute.

The 'Forrest Gump' actor will be celebrated at the annual event which will be held in April next year.

Kent Jones, associate director of programming for the society, praised the Oscar winner for his portrayal of the "good man".

The 'Forrest Gump' star is constantly being asked to take charge of the Southeast Asian country whenever he visits.

He revealed: "They say, 'You should come down and be president here.' "
