Portia de Rossi has legally taken wife Ellen DeGeneres' surname.

The 37-year-old actress - who married the talk show host at their Beverly Hills home in August 2008 - had her request to officially become Mrs. DeGeneres granted by a judge yesterday (23.09.10).

Portia said in a statement: "I am thrilled to legally adopt my wife's name. I will continue to use Portia de Rossi for professional purposes."

Portia de Rossi is taking on her wife Ellen DeGeneres' surname.

The 37-year-old actress - who married the talk show host almost two years ago - filed a petition in a Los Angeles court to formally become Portia DeGeneres.

Court papers state: "Petitioner is taking the last name of her spouse."

The US talk show host - who wed Portia in an intimate sunset ceremony on Saturday (16.08.08) - is delighted to have tied the knot because the former 'Ally McBeal' actress will now do all the chores.

Ellen joked to People magazine: "What can I say? I'm the luckiest girl in the world. She is officially off the market. No one else gets her. And now she'll cook and clean for me."

Ellen DeGeneres and Portia de Rossi are set to marry in October.

The US talk show host and her 'Ally McBeal' girlfriend are reportedly planning to tie the knot at California's Riviera Resort and Spa in Palm Springs when the renovations are finished later this year.

A source told the New York Post newspaper: "They didn't sign the contract yet, but they're working out final details and security. The hotel is spending $70 million on renovations that will be done in October.
