Alex James thinks blackberries are "better than drugs".

The Blur bassist - who lives on a cheese farm in Oxfordshire with his wife Claire and their four children - doesn't miss his wild rock star days as he gets his kicks from nature instead.

Alex James' children think he is a conductor.

The musician - who took part in UK TV show 'Maestro' last year, where celebrities had to learn how to conduct an orchestra - admits his four kids have no idea about his success as a bass player.

Alex - who recently reunited with his band Blur for a series of shows - said: "Yes, they think I'm a conductor, or they did until recently. They wanted to be conductors until recently, now I think they want to sing. Bad choice."

Alex James makes "psychedelic" cheese.

The Blur bassist became a dairy farmer when the group went on hiatus in 2003 and his newly-reconciled bandmates have been enjoying the fruits of his labour - with unexpected consequences.

Guitarist Graham Coxon said: "I have gorged upon his Blue Monday cheese, late at night. It was good with honey all over it. That's when I discovered that it had psychedelic qualities."

Alex James says AC/DC make his children violent.

The Blur bassist revealed his wife Claire has banned him from playing records by the Australian rock group whenever sons Geronimo, four, Artemis and Galileo, both two, and three-month-old daughter Sable are present because of the adverse effect the songs have.

Alex explained: "All of the children are musical, it's amazing. The boys do love the Ramones, although I'm banned from playing AC/DC to them as it makes them violent."

Alex James fell asleep while his wife was in labour.

The Blur bassist was left so exhausted from rehearsing for 'Maestro' - a UK TV show in which he learned to conduct an orchestra - he dozed off in the hospital waiting room before his wife Claire gave birth to their daughter Sable earlier this year.

Claire explained: "Alex sat with his headphones on for a while and then he fell asleep.
