Sarah Michelle Gellar is planning a return to TV.

The blonde beauty - whose hit show 'Buffy the Vampire Slayer' ended in 2003 - has since starred in movies including 'The Grudge' and 'Southland Tales', but has now landed a role in new TV series 'The Wonderful Maladys'.

The show, written by Charles Randolph, tells the story of three adult siblings who learn how to cope after losing their parents at a very young age.

Gellar is set to play a character with a "zealous immaturity - like a drug addict with a to-do list" according to Randolph, and she will also reportedly be an executive producer on the show.

Speaking about her return to the small screen, Gellar said: "I can't wait. This will be a terrific next chapter for me."

The pilot episode of 'The Wonderful Maladys' will be shot early next year, according to Variety magazine.

Gellar shot to fame as the title character in 'Buffy the Vampire Slayer' - wowing fans with her combination of vulnerability and astounding fighting power.
