Katy Perry and Russell Brand's wedding was gatecrashed by a tiger.

The couple - who married in a lavish ceremony on Saturday (23.10.10) at the luxury Aman-i-Khas resort in Rajasthan, India - and their 85 guests were joined by armed guards, who stepped in to protect the party from the man-eating beast after it was discovered just 50ft away from the celebrations after being attracted to the lights and music of the festivities.

An official told The Sun newspaper: "This particular tiger has killed before. It came into the compound at 11pm, with the party at its peak, and caused pandemonium among staff."

Meanwhile, Russell, 35, bought his new bride, 26, a female Bengal tiger named Machli, who lives in the Ranthambore National Park near where they tied the knot, as a wedding gift after hearing the big cat was known as the "epitome of beauty" by park rangers.

The creature will stay in its home, with the money the British funnyman paid for the animal going towards its welfare and upkeep at the park.

While the tiger was an unwanted guest at the wedding, one animal the couple were glad to have in attendance was a fortune-telling parrot.

The bird picked out cards in response to guests' questions and predicted Russell and Katy will have a long life, long marriage and long and successful careers.

The festivities are expected to continue today (25.10.10) at the five-star Taj Rambagh Palace Hotel, where rap star P.Diddy is rumoured to be performing.
