Posted on 24th January 2009 08:00AMGary Barlow used to have a butler called Maurice.
The Take That star admits he was determined to live the pop star life when the band - comprising at the time Gary, Robbie Williams, Mark Owen, Howard Donald and Jason Orange - first became famous in the mid-1990s, so decided to take advice from Sir Elton John and splash out on some hired help.
He said: "I was totally into that 'What are pop stars supposed at act like?' frame of mind. Maurice cooked and cleaned and he looked after Robbie a fair bit. Rob would go to Dublin or somewhere and get off his head. He didn't want to go home and face his mum. Maurice would make him a big meal, knock him into shape and then send him home."
The 38-year-old singer also confirmed rumours that at the height of the band's fame, fans would get a Gary Barlow doll free if they bought the other four band member's toys.
He explained: "That's absolutely true. I was never angry about it at all. The Take That dolls didn't sell very well. They go for top money on eBay now.
"I've got on in my attic. How weird is that? There's got to be a horror movie in that somewhere."
