Kaiser Chiefs' Leeds loss

Kaiser Chiefs will lose money when they play in Leeds later this month.

The band revealed that despite being advised against performing at Elland Road - the home ground of Leeds United soccer club - they were determined to go ahead.

Bassist Simon Rix said: "We're doing it because we want to."

The rockers also revealed the hometown show will have a soccer theme, in keeping with the setting.

Drummer Nick Hodgson said: "We're going to have programmes like football programmes."

The group had to scrap their plan to have giant footballs in the crowd because they would have cost nearly £2,000.

Guitarist Whitey added to NME magazine: "We've chosen the date deliberately so we don't clash with the play-off final."

Saying that the show is a "massive deal" for the band, frontman Ricky Wilson added: "Just like Leeds United we are going up a division. We're going to be a stadium band."

Leeds are currently involved in the football league play-offs which could see them promoted to the Championship.

Kaiser Chiefs play Elland Road on May 24.
