The 'Mercy' singer, whose debut record 'Rockferry' was the biggest selling album in the UK in 2008, admits achieving worldwide fame has come as a surprise.
She said: "If I sat and thought about everything, I'd probably lose my mind. So I just go, 'That's weird, isn't it?' You've just got to get on with it - don't give yourself a chance to dwell."
The 24-year-old star insists her success hasn't been as rapid as it seems, and she believes she still has a lot to learn.
Duffy added: "It's been like baby steps along the way. It wasn't like one day I won the lottery.
"I still don't feel I've been defined. I've got a few more years and a few more lessons to learn."
Duffy recently admitted living in the public spotlight is difficult and she can't her emotions when she takes to the stage.
She said: "I wish I could explain it. Once in every 15 shows, I get teary. The lights are so bright, I can't hide. I feel very exposed. I wish I could wake up tomorrow the way I'm going to turn out in 10 years' time. At the moment, I am growing up under a microscope."
