Russell Brand's Xmas single

Russell Brand wants to record a Christmas song with the Jonas Brothers.

The controversial comic star, who mocked the musical trio for wearing purity rings when he hosted the MTV Video Music Awards earlier this year, insists he respects the group and is keen to work with them.

Russell said: "I'm only just mucking about with the things I say. When some people took it seriously, it was surprising.

"I haven't seen them since, but I love them little guys. I've got nothing against the Jonas Brothers as a concept. I love the idea.

"One of the things on my to-do list for 2009 is to perhaps a Christmas song with the Jonas Brothers."

Russell sparked outrage by making several outlandish remarks at the September awards show - including ridiculing the band for abstaining from sex before marriage and branding US President George Bush a "retarded cowboy".
