Posted on 19th November 2008 12:00PMJohn Sergeant has quit 'Strictly Come Dancing'.
The former journalist - who has been nicknamed 'The Dancing Pig' following his shambolic performances on the TV talent show - has decided to take himself out of the competition , after judges accused viewers of voting on who they favorite rather than the best dancer on the BBC programme.
In a statement, John, 64, said: "The trouble is that there is now a real danger that I might win the competition. Even for me that would be a joke too far."
BBC one controller Jay Hunt added: "We are very sad to see him go."
Last week, the judges on 'Strictly Come Dancing' were left furious after Cherie Lunghi was voted off the programme, while John remained in.
The panel - Len Goodman, Arlene Phillips, Craig Revel Horwood and Bruno Tonioli - were forced to vote off Cherie after she faced model Lisa Snowdon in the dance-off.
Arlene was said to be astounded that Cherie, who had earlier been awarded 32 out of 40 for her Cha Cha had been forced off, while head judge Len is said to be outraged by John's "sympathy votes".
A source revealed: "Arlene thinks it's a joke that John is still in it. It's ridiculous that Cherie had to leave as she's a much better dancer.
"She did see what people saw in John but she thinks that should be over now, it's getting a bit silly. It's got to the stage now where it's time for John to go.
"Len feels it makes a mockery of the competition. He couldn't believe he was forced to send home one of the best dancers."
